PREAMBLE TO TRAVEL
Life should be an adventure, shouldn’t it?
Recently, we read something that said “Life is an adventure.” If life isn’t that, then what is it? It seems it is really easy to get caught up in routine. What routine means is that we do the same things over and over. That is comfortable. But how many times do we get to experience this moment—right now? Just this once!
So if we go on doing what we have always done, we will go on getting what we have always got. Why do we choose this? We don’t have the answer to that question. Maybe it is just easy and we are lazy and we don’t want to put the effort out to have the new experience? Maybe we inherently try to limit risk so we just go with the things that have been tried and true? We really don’t know but WE will say, Life should be an adventure, shouldn’t it?
When I (Cliff) was relatively young, I decided I didn’t want to keep doing all the things I already have done. My father is a carpenter and I grew up in a relatively small town, Carlsbad, New Mexico (USA). The claim to fame for Carlsbad is the Carlsbad Caverns. It is relatively normal, somewhat slow, place to grow up. It has all the typical small town stuff which was something I decided I wanted a change from early on.
Like most people (I suspect) I thought there was much more out there. . .big cities, natural wonders, and culture I would never experience if I just hung around. Anyway, as I was saying, my father was a carpenter and my Mom was a school teacher sometimes and just an all around great Mom others. My Dad grew up during the Great Depression and he had a solid work ethic and the belief that one has to work hard to get ahead in life. All of which I adopted to an extent. I learned I have to work hard all the time and if I wasn’t making money, I was wasting my time.
Well, my belief has evolved into something that embraces that philosophy but tweaks it a bit. I now believe that I need to work hard but not all the time. And, in general, because I really love what I am doing now, it doesn’t so much feel like what I grew up to understand as work. More on that in a bit. . .
What we have figured out for us and our lives is that we want to experience as much as we can in this lifetime. We WANT our lives to be an adventure. We want to look back at the end of our life and know that we experienced life! Most certainly, we will all have experienced life at the end our respective lives, but what do you want yours to be, “Groundhog Day” or Adventure?
CLIFF AND EVELYN lived on Maui when they got married. One of the things they really wanted to do was travel more and see more of the world. Together, they set this intention and waited to see what the universe had in store for them.
Within the year, they found YTB. Or rather, YTB found them. They are now on their “path” to adventure…moving to New York and living the gift of travel. They have decided to make travel their lifestyle and are sharing this gift with friends, family, travelers alike that may be interested in living their life too! The result is that they have built travel teams* all over the United States (and soon, Canada!).
And why not? As Mark Twain would say, “Let us endeavor so to live that when we come to die, even the undertaker will be sorry.”
Life is more than a journey,
it is an adventure.
Cliff, Evelyn and Cayden Amadeus (their son) look forward to seeing you on their many adventures!
